Frequently Asked Questions

Frontpage

Q: What is FrontPage and do I have to use It?
A: No, you do not have to use FrontPage. However, most of our customers find it a very easy to use tool for creating and maintaining their web sites.

Here is what Microsoft says:

"Easy-to-use, leading edge features let you create professional Web sites without programming. Create WYSIWYG frames pages and draw HTML tables in the WYSIWYG FrontPage Editor. Add sophisticated, interactive functionality using FrontPage components-there's no need to write code.

Innovative imaging tools and intelligent design assistance make it easier than ever to build great-looking Web sites. Add rich, dynamic graphics to your sites using Microsoft Image Composer, Microsoft GIF Animator, and more than 2,000 image samples.

With FrontPage 98, easily include powerful Web functionality in your sites by adding Java™ applets, ActiveX™ controls, and browser plug-ins. Support for databases and Active Server Pages allows you to include database content in your Web pages easily and lets users perform dynamic database queries on your site over the Web, giving them direct access to the information they need."

Graphic Traffic fully supports FrontPage98 and all of it's features. Check out our FrontPage Hosting page for more details.

Q: Why do you charge to support FrontPage extensions?
A: Graphic Traffic believes in offering our customers the best value possible. We think those users who want basic accounts should not have to pay for services they don't use or need. So FrontPage extension support is for those users who use FrontPage.

Q: Do I have to pay for FrontPage extensions to use FrontPage?
A: No. You can use the Microsoft Web Publishing Wizard to warn you when you are using functions not supported on Graphic Traffic's server without extensions. FrontPage is an excellent html editor and we have had a number of customers use this approach in the past.

Here is what Microsoft says:
"Install the wizard to post your Web pages to a Web server on which the FrontPage Server Extensions have not been installed. The wizard warns you if any of the pages that you want to post contain features that require the FrontPage Server Extensions."

"You can use the FrontPage Web Publishing Wizard to post an entire Web or just the pages that have changed since the last time you posted your Web. After installation, choose "FrontPage Web Publishing Wizard" from your Microsoft FrontPage Programs List."

NOTE: If your server is equipped already with FrontPage Server Extensions, it is not necessary to use the FrontPage Web Publishing Wizard to post your Web pages to your server. Simply use the File/Copy Web command in the FrontPage Explorer and your information will be copied automatically to your hosting server.

Q: Do you support All of the features of FrontPage?
A: Yes. Graphic Traffic's MS IIS4 servers support all of the functionality of FrontPage98 and it's components.

Q: When I use FrontPage Explorer to connect to a My Web server, the following message appears:

Unable to complete transaction--the server requested authentication information (userid/password) using an authentication scheme (ntlm) that is unsupported by FrontPage.

A: This problem will occur if you have not installed the Client for Microsoft Networks in your Network control panel. Without the client, FrontPage cannot process the request for NTLM authentication.

NOTE: This same error message appears in FrontPage, version 1.1, if you request authentication from a Web server that is not requesting Basic authentication.

For additional information, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

   ARTICLE-ID: Q160618
TITLE : FP: Unable to Complete Transaction on Server with NTLM
